WTF!?!

It is only the halfway point of October and people are already talking about No Shave NOvember.  What is that you ask?  It is exactly what it sounds like.  Guys decide not to shave for the entire month of November.  I was first introduced to it my freshman year.  I did not participate in it that year, nor did I participate in it last year.  Why?  Because I did not think my facial hair was adequate enough to try to grow a beard.  However, this year I may give it a go.  I may try to go a full month without shaving.  I think the longest I have gone since being able to shave is just around 2 weeks, and believe me, it was a hideous sight.   If I do decide to do it this year, I cannot make any promises that I will last the whole month.  The last time I saw my hair grow too long it was very patchy and it looked like someone had glued a bunch of nasty hair to my face.  Since I am in college and dont really have a job that I need to worry about shaving for every day, I think I may go for it.  So, if I do, expect visual aids in upcoming posts to document the journey.

I live in Columbia South Carolina, so every now and then I may go to Charleston to spend the weekend. Charleston is only about an hour and a half drive from my house, and is really close to the beach I normally go to. I love walking up and down the streets and going into the market. It isnt like a big city where you have huge skyscrappers and 4 lane streets. This city has 200 year old houses and cobbles in the street and sometimes the streets are so narrow that they make them 1 way. I also enjoy walking up and down the Battery and looking out into the harbor. There are also plenty of good restaurants to find. Every time I go it seems I am eating at a different one.

What I would really like to do and have been wanting to do ever since my first trip to Charleston is go on a Ghost tour. That is one of the attractions that Charleston has. It was big in the slave trade so there are several slave stories being told and since it is one of the oldest cities in the nation, it has plenty of other historic stories. It was also a key city in the Civil War. Trusted Tours offers several Tours of Charleston including one on ghosts and legends. This is exactly what I would be looking for. I could go one evening with a group of friends, have dinner, and then we could all go to the Ghost tour. Even if it doesnt scare us we can still get some good stories.

I am currently doing some updates to the site. One is that I have added the page “Money Makers”. First off, no, it is not too early to start talking about Christmas. Second, I live in an eco friendly dorm at USC. It is named “Green Quad” and has actually been mentioned in the national media before. Here we have solar panels on our roofs, we have extensions on our windows to keep the sun from driving up our AC bill, we have a large recycling center, there is a common area in the middle for people to grow their own plants, and there is talk of creating a compost pile. What does this have to do with LED Christmas Lights?

The two flag football teams that I am on are now approaching the playoffs. And I must say, things do not look good. The Blue Barracuda’s who started the season with an impressive win have now fallen to 1Win, 2 Losses, and 1 Tie. Our last game of the season was to day and it was ugly. We started off by giving up 2 quick touchdowns, one off of an interception. Then, out of no where we ran 2 interceptions back for touchdowns ourselves. This knotted the score at 12-12 in the first half. Neither team would score again. So, now we wait and see who we are matched up with in the playoffs.

My other team, the NAP Rainbow Nights which also started the season with an impressive win lost tonight. It was a tough game and it seems that as the season progressed the refs were becoming more and more biased against us, calling penalties that we didnt know existed and giving touchdowns there were without a doubt not touchdowns. So, we have finished the season 2-5. This means we will be near the lower end of the playoffs and it will be difficult to get far.

Tomorrow USC plays Vanderbilt. This is going to be a big game for the Gamecocks, the offense has really been questionable lately and if we are not careful Vandy will upset us. If we crush them however, that could be the boost we need to go into Knoxville and beat a revived Tennessee team.

Professional Cyclists have one of the longest seasons out of any athletes. They race from Freezing cold February to Mid October. This weekend features the last race of the ProTour Calendar, the Tour of Lombardy. It is raced around the beautiful countryside that surrounds Lake Como. The riders will actually make a loop around the Y shaped lake during the race.

Because this is the last race of the season there will be plenty of riders looking to make it a good one. Whether it is to secure a spot on a team or to try to take advantage of everyones tired legs. Paolo Bettini, the current World Champion and two time defending Lombardy Champion will be there. However, Cadel Evans, who is currently in the lead for the ProTour Standings will also be there. After such a long season of near misses, he would really love to win this one. It will be difficult for him to lose his standing in the ProTour lead, but to seal it with a win would be special.

I myself will be pulling for Evans. I like the Australian and I think he deserves the win, Im just not sure his lags have it after his long season where he raced well at the Tour de France and the Vuelta a Espana. We will see.
