Mayo Not yet clear to ride
Oct 24th, 2007 by Nick
Although news broke Monday that Spanish cyclist Iban Mayo would be cleared to ride again, it was in fact a case of jumping the gun. Headlines read that his B sample had come back negative for EPO. If you are not familiar with this story, during the Tour this year his A sample tested positive, and this whole time he has been waiting for his B sample to be tested and examined to see if he was innocent or not. His team Saunier Duval suspended him without pay following the announcement that his A was positive. So, on Monday word broke that his B was negative and he had not doped. But, Tuesday the UCI followed that by saying his B sample was not negative because it had not yet been finished be tested.
Hopefully, this mini soap opera will resolve itself by the end of the week. I hope that the B sample does come back negative because I enjoy watching Mayo ride. I have always cheered for him. Probably because he was on the underdog team Euskatel for so long going up against mighty T-mobile, USpostal, and CSC.
