Help Wanted: USC QB
Oct 21st, 2007 by Nick
USC should be 7-1 right now. They should be ranked in the top 5. They should have blown out Vandy in our home game yesterday. We should be at the top of the SEC East. Instead, we are 6-2, probably going to be outside the top 15, lost by 11, and are going to be in the middle of the SEC. All because we do not have a quarterback. Sure, Smelley was 4-0 starting as he went into the game yesterday, but he really doesnt deserve the credit for those wins, the defense deserves the credit. As I stood in the stands yesterday I couldnt believe how poorly we played. Everytime I thought we were about to get something going we had a turnover. Smelley couldnt do it, nor could Mitchell. I think they had a combined 4 interceptions with 0 touchdowns. We could very well end our season 7-5 now. We have to play Tennessee away, and Florida and Clemson at home. I wanted to leave the game at halftime yesterday, but I told myself to stay, just in cases they were able to muster a comeback. Besides, when fans start leaving during a game that would only make things worse for the coach and players.
The highlight of the game for me was the halftime celebration. It was in honor of all the men and women in the US armed forces and at the end of the celebration, 4 f-16s flew directly over the field. They were probably only about 100 feet above the stands. It was so loud that I could feel the vibrations in my chest. It was amazing.
That may be the last home game I will be able to attend this season. We only have 2 more. Florida will be hard to get because I am sure people will be camping out to get their tickets. I may have to skip a class or two to get in line. And Clemson is usually done through a lottery basis so there is no guarantee there either.
