Google Dropping PRs Left and Right
Oct 24th, 2007 by Nick
Apparently, Google has been hitting some websites lately and dropping their PR. Some have speculated that they are mainly targeting blogs that sell text links, others say they are targeting websites that are just trying to make money period. It would make since, Google runs Adsense so why would they want anyone to profit from PR if they dont even use Adsense. Many ad networks use PR to determine a sites worth and seniority. Google knows this and doesnt want these people to profit off of Googles service anymore.
Google has already started banning people who sell text ads, now they are going to be dropping their PR too. In my internet career I have sold 1 text ad. It was through AdVolcano and it was about 4 or 5 months ago. I think I mad $22.50 for it. I applied for TLA but never had my site approved, if it had been approved I probably would have been using their program. Maybe it isnt such a bad thing after all that I wasnt approved. So, now we know that Alexa is a bunk statistic for a sites worth, and now Google’s PR is dropping in value, what is left? I guess sites are just going to have to post their raw data in order to figure out their worth, Page Views and Unique Visitors.
If you have been hit with a lower PR I feel your pain, im sure it is only a matter of time before Google sweeps through the rest of cyberspace and gets everyone. Be on the lookout for the next big indicator. Technorati is doing pretty well, maybe it is their time to dominate.
